DHB TARGETS

-

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman says latest health target results show Waitemata DHB achieved four out of six health targets, but there’s always more to do. He said the DHB exceeded the faster cancer treatment target of 85 per cent, achieving 92 per cent. The DHB exceeded the improved access to elective surgery target of 100 per cent, achieving 108 per cent. The shorter stays in emergency departments target of 95 per cent was also surpassed by 2 per cent. The DBH referred 100 per cent of children identified as obese to a professional for clinical assessment and family based nutrition, above the 95 per cent target. ‘‘Further work is needed to reach the better help for smokers to quit and the increased immunisation target,’’ the minister said.

GARAGE FIRES

One in seven major fires that AA Insurance handled over the past year started in garages, the company said in a press release on May 23. Customer relations manager Amelia Macandrew said people should not overload power sockets or multi-boards, as it is tempting to do in a garage with few plugs, especially when it has been converted into extra rooms or a sleepout. Even fires in detached garages could quickly spread, the press release said.
