TATTOO IDENTITY

A dead woman was identified after Auckland police shared a picture of her distinctiv­e tattoo. Police found the woman’s body on the corner of Luanda Drive and Swanson Rd in Ranui on May 26 at 4.30am. Despite extensive efforts, police said they were unable to identify her and, therefore, couldn’t notify her family. Police released a picture of her large, distinctiv­e rose tattoo on the same day. She was identified and efforts were made to locate and notify her immediate family. Her death was not suspicious and was referred to the Coroner.

POWER OUTAGES

More than 1000 homes in west Auckland were without electricit­y after a tree fell onto power lines. A fire service spokesman said the tree caused powerlines to come down on Mudgeways Rd, Massey, on May 27 at 5.30pm. Vector’s website said 1130 houses were originally affected; by 7pm half of those homes were without power. Power was estimated to be restored to all houses by 8:30pm.

MAN ARRESTED

Police have arrested a man wanted after events in the Auckland suburb of St Lukes on May 24. Haumia Manuel, 35, was arrested in the early hours of May 25 and taken into custody from Pt Chevalier. He was expected to appear in court on May 25 on a range of charges. The man’s arrest follows an incident on May 24 where a man carjacked a driver, and then hit him with his own car in the St Lukes area. Manuel allegedly fled in the stolen car, before dumping it outside a house in Harrington Rd, Henderson.

HEALTH INVESTMENT

The Waitemata District Health Board will receive an extra $53 million in money this year – taking the DHB’s total funding to $1.558 billion for 2017/18. Health Minister Jonathan Coleman said in a media release the Government’s investment in health will reach a record $16.77b in 2017/18. He said DHBs will benefit from an extra $1.76b over four years to invest in services, improve access and to meet the demands of a growing population.
