I’m not the biggest of rugby fans I’ll admit.

But west Auckland’s Suburbs Rugby Football Club have a chance to go back-to-back in Auckland Rugby’s premier format this weekend.

One of my old colleagues Jackson Thomas picked them from the start of the year to at least make the final.

With my typical competitiveness I picked against him. The Green Bay side beat Grammar TEC 12-9 a year ago – its first shield in 24 years.

Now Suburbs will take on University in the Gallaher Shield final at Eden Park on July 29.

Some had picked Suburbs to go undefeated all this year.

I thought College Rifles would be the only team to beat Suburbs this year – that happened, twice.

University have proved they’re tough to beat on they’re day, but Suburbs have been hard to break down all year and lost only three matches. Suburbs didn’t go unbeaten all year as some had predicted, but do you think they’ll go back-to-back?
