CERAMIC AWARDS
The winner of the Portage Ceramic Awards will get a chance to exhibit their work at Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery in November. The winner will receive $15,000. Whanganui based curator and writer Emma Bugden is the first New Zealander selected to judge the awards. Entries close on August 7 and finalists would be announced on October 28.
PLASTIC FREE SHOPPING
The Glen Eden Salvation Army Family Store is planning to make the switch to sustainable packaging. In July, the thrift shop went plastic-free to reduce the impact of its economical footprint in the community.

CLARIFICATION
Auckland Council says it kept Probett Building tenant Robert D’Cruze informed in the wake of the Tasman Tempest floods on March 12, which devastated his business. D’Cruze said he was disappointed in the level of communication received from it ina Western Leader story printed on July 25.
