Man arrested over robberies

A man has been arrested over a string of robberies and burglaries in west Auckland.

A police spokeswoma­n said he faced a charge of assault with intent to rob over the attempted hold up of the ASB bank in Blockhouse Bay with a gun on July 27.

The 27-year-old from Avondale also faced aggravated robbery charges over incidents at the New Lynn TAB, Te Atatu TAB, and a West Coast Rd premises.

Arrested on July 23, he was expected to appear in the Auckland District Court on July 28.

He also faced an aggravated burglary charge in relation to an incident at the Grey Lynn TAB as well as a burglary charge over incidents at a private residence in Blockhouse Bay and the TAB in New Lynn.

The man also faced other charges including assault with intent to rob, and theft of a motor vehicle and motorcycle.

Detective Sergeant Tony Turner said on social media that ’’good old-fashioned detective work’’ led police to the apprehend the man. Another male and female have also been arrested, with police believing them to be involved with some of the crimes, and both would appear in court.

The male was charged with receiving a vehicle and a motorcycle used in aggravated robberies, and two charges of unlawfully taking of a vehicle.

The female was charged with burglary, aggravated robbery, theft of a vehicle and two charges of unlawfully taking a vehicle. Turner said the offences were of a serious nature.

‘‘We’re committed to keeping not only Avondale and Henderson communitie­s safe but all of Tamaki Makaurau,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old male, from Henderson, and an 18-yearold male from Ranui have been arrested and charged in relation to an armed robbery at a Sunnyvale takeaways on July 15.

Both have been charged with aggravated robbery and would go through the court system.
