RULES SQUEEZE TRADER

-

Graham Stiles is in no way innocent in relation to his statement that he is being hard done by with not being allowed his juice trailer at Parrs Park.

Graham runs that trailer as a business and I do not know why he does not go down the proper channels.

Graham and his trailer are regulars in Margan Ave, by the Manawa Wetlands, which is a partly fenced park for families. He parks on the front berm, by the fence.

If you have seen his juice business, you would be impressed as it is quite a large trailer with a little gazebo on top. This trailer is a duel wheel and is big.

Earlier in the year when the park was very wet, his juice trailer left big ruts in the ground.

He is treating it as a business, and needs to things properly. It is no wonder council are giving him a hard time, as they certainly have not seen what he left behind at the Manawa Wetlands.

So this is just two places Graham uses. Where else does this gypsy go? Council needs to monitor his use of parks. WAYNE DAVIS New Lynn

RIGHT OF REPLY

To date, I have paid the Auckland Council a $1000 for a food licence, $300 to apply to be a street trader and I pay a monthly rental of $90, despite using no power or water.

I have consulted the council and complied in every way asked of me. If I approached this venture purely from a business point of view I would have made a hasty exit a long time ago.

I am here doing what I’m doing because I am passionate about making healthy, fresh fruit and vegetable drinks more affordable and more accessible to our local community. The support and encouragement I am receiving from my regular customers is what keeps me going.

I am doing my best to keep Waita¯ kere beautiful, as well as looking after its people. The damage you mention was minor and repaired in a day by myself. I stayed away from the site for 4 months over winter because of the wet conditions. No other approved sites to operate from means no income.

Change is needed, change is wanted. I am prepared to help make change happen. It would be great to receive some support from those who also seek to improve our community. GRAHAM STILES

FUEL TAX

Before the wreckers try and undermine the proposed extra fuel tax for Auckland drivers let them give a moment’s thought to its benefits. Having a permanent improvement to our city’s public transport network is a great tick on many fronts.

A user-pay charge is the way to go, especially as the ratepayers are not targeted.

Although I am not a ratepayer I am obliged to use my car a lot. I can categorically say that this article is not about a ulterior motive.

In a big society like China the Government plays a major role in advancing the infrastructure. Look at the highly successful Shanghai train system.

Surely our government here can implement its ambitious plans for the population. Remember petrol prices in parts of the South Island already surpass that proposed for Greater Auckland.
