Fireworks shop must go
An Auckland pop-up fireworks shop was told to ship out because it was a hazard for passing motorists.
A shipping container had been set up to sell fireworks on a site near the Brigham Creek roundabout along State Highway 16 last week.
The Flying Phoenix Fireworks container was in the same location where the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) put up signs prohibiting car sales earlier this year.
The signs said cars parked for sale were in breach of a NZ Transport Agency bylaw.
A NZ Transport Agency spokesperson said the operators of the popup shop did not have the required roadside vendors licence from NZTA.
‘‘We have instructed them not to operate and to remove the container,’’ the spokesperson said.
‘‘The Transport Agency wants drivers approaching and travelling through the roundabout to have their full attention on the road and the pop up store is a potential distraction and therefore a safety hazard.’’
The pop-up shop was seen in operating on the morning of November 2.
Flying Phoenix Fireworks said to its knowledge, all pop-up shops had the necessary permits.
It refused to comment any further.
