Toddler injured at airport
A toddler has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after an incident on a luggage conveyor belt at Auckland International Airport yesterday afternoon.
The Herald understands the 2-year-old boy suffered a serious arm injury after being carried on a baggage conveyor belt.
A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said Aviation Security Service (Avsec) staff at “were extremely surprised to discover a child in the baggage handling system” after he got on a baggage conveyor belt at the checkin counters about 3pm yesterday.
“As soon as the child was detected, Avsec staff moved quickly to rescue him,” he said.
“They comforted the child and administered first aid until medical staff arrived.”
A full investigation of the incident was under way, he said.
A St John spokesman said they transported the toddler to Middlemore Hospital. He was in a serious but stable condition, he said.
No labour — yet
False alarm — the motorcade seen driving through Auckland yesterday morning was not a rush to get the Prime Minister to hospital. It’s thought the procession was for the Solomon Islands’ Prime Minister.
Offenders near school
Parents are angry they weren’t consulted over a decision to move former prisoners near their children’s school in Christchurch. Corrections is looking at providing a managed accommodation facility a kilometre away from Harewood School.
