THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Disney+

There’s no time to mourn the conclusion of the superb superhero series WandaVision as Marvel now flies us head first into this brand new show. This limitedrun series has a very different tone and aesthetic but you can expect the same sky-high quality. Forget kooky sitcom tropes, emotional resonance or mysterious peculiarities, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a full-blown action-thriller that augments its exciting, high-flying action sequences with drama that’s as dark as winter. Like WandaVision it follows on from the cinematic universe-shaking events of the final Avengers film. Falcon is struggling with Captain America’s legacy and the bills he has to pay back home, while Bucky “the Winter Soldier” Barnes is troubled by PTSD-fuelled nightmares and finding it difficult to make amends to everyone he previously wronged as part of his pardon conditions. The arrival of a shadowy terrorist organisation pulls the two unlikely allies together while a surprise and dramatic appearance portents farreaching consequences.

FAKE FAMOUS Neon

Influencer and influencer culture is largely derided, yet people can’t look away. This documentary explores this brave new digital world and sets out to expose the superficiality and artifice at its core by attempting to turn three regular people into influencers with hundreds of thousands of social media followers. The trio at the heart of this “social experiment“, an aspiring actress, a real estate agent and a fashion designer, have few followers at the start of the process. To kickstart their online presence they’re gifted thousands of “fake followers” and an army of bots to “engage“with their revamped social media schedule. As their reach begins to grow, we see what really goes on behind the scenes and what it takes to get all those likes, follows and favourites.
