Stating the facts
In reply to John McGowan’s letter to the Midweek on June 13 regarding the Wanganui Jazz Club performance at the Wanganui RSA.
The Wanganui RSA members, executive and staff bent over backwards to accommodate the Jazz Club on Thursday, May 31, a night on which they do not normally have a Jazz Club performance. It was explained quite clearly to the Jazz Club that they could use the RSA clubrooms after the RSA had completed its usual club business which would finish with our members’ jackpot draw at around 6.30pm.
Just to clarify the glaring errors in Mr McGowan’s column: The Jazz Club does not rent our premises. Our darts, 8 ball and poker groups all moved their regular Thursday night activities to other times and locations solely to accommodate the Jazz Club. In fact the Wanganui Darts Association changed their interclub draw to accommodate the Jazz Club performance at the RSA. In regard to ignorance and poor etiquette Mr Forman in fact spoke over the top of the Wanganui RSA president rather than the other way around.
Most offensively Mr McGowan refers to the Wanganui RSA staff on several occasions as being ignorant and rude. The Wanganui RSA president was running the members draw and one of our vice presidents was acting as MC. The actions referred to by Mr McGowan had absolutely nothing to do with the staff at the Wanganui RSA.
Perhaps if Mr McGowan had bothered to get any of his facts straight he may have had a point, however, he is obviously ignorant of almost all the facts. GEOFF CHOWLES & KYLE
