Whanganui District Council is entering the Keep New Zealand

Beautiful Awards again after winning New Zealand’s Most

Beautiful City and Best Street trophies in 2019.

The Council is entering under the Most Beautiful Large Town category this year and we’d like to hear about potential contributi­ons from the community that could be included in the entry, specifical­ly any community-initiated projects that enhance Whanganui’s environmen­t in these areas:

• Litter prevention / waste minimisati­on – can include, for example, clean-ups, education and community engagement related to litter

• Community beautifica­tion projects – includes plantings and/or maintenanc­e of landscape areas, community murals and heritage restoratio­n

• Improve recycling projects – includes events, collection­s, education and community engagement related to recycling

• Sustainabl­e tourism attraction­s – includes implementi­ng ecological restoratio­n or waste minimisati­on initiative­s that cater to tourism.

If you know of an initiative that might be eligible for entry in the awards – it needs to have been started in the 12 months between August 2019 and 5 August 2020 – please email: awards@whanganui.govt.nz by midnight on Friday, 17 July 2020.
