Northlanders urged to host pink breakfasts

-

Best-selling cookbook authors Margo and Rosa Flanagan have teamed up with Breast Cancer Foundation NZ to urge people in Northland to host a Pink Ribbon Breakfastnext month.

“We often have the mindset that ‘it will never happen to me’ but breast cancer is a lot more common than we think,” Margo said. “For us, hosting a Pink Ribbon Breakfast is more than sitting round a table with a bunch of women eating delicious food.

“Without the funds raised, Breast Cancer Foundation NZ can’t continue their amazing job of breast cancer education and helping those affected by the illness.”

For Rosa, the role of diet in breast cancer prevention and recovery matches the sisters’ food philosophy.

“We love making and sharing recipes that make you feel great. We want to make it easy for individuals to love food and experience the positive impact good food has on our overall well-being.”

Breast cancer is the most common cancer for Kiwi women, with about 160 diagnosed in Northland every year.

Pink Ribbon Breakfast is Breast Cancer Foundation NZ’s largest annual fundraiser, where tens of thousands of Kiwis host special events throughout May in their homes, workplaces and communities.

“Pink Ribbon Breakfast is the ultimate show of support for the 3500 Kiwi women diagnosed with breast cancer every year,” foundation chief executive Ah-Leen Rayner said.

“Hosting is easier than ever before, thanks a new website that supports people to register, plan and track their fundraising goals. As a charity that doesn’t receive any government funding, it’s only thanks to the generosity of New Zealanders that allows us to do whatever it takes to stop women of dying from breast cancer.”
