KAT SPACES OUT

Ridley Scott takes the British beauty out of this world!

-

Katherine Waterston has traded the curious critters of Fantastic Beast sand Where

to Find Them for fearsome extra-terrestrials in Alien:

Covenant. The 37-year-old lets loose about the latest instalment of Ridley Scott’s iconic franchise.

Did taking on an Alien movie worry you?

I was never nervous about it. Ridley was directing, that was really all I needed to know! They sent me the script via a passwordprotected website that would expire after 24 hours. I was shooting

Fantastic Beasts at that time, so the only thing that made me nervous was the possibility that the script would self-destruct before I had the chance to find out what happened at the end!

What was it like working with Ridley?

I actually met Ridley months before he gave me the script. I didn’t know what part I was meeting him for, but we got along immediately. He’s fascinating but also incredibly affable, totally genuine and downright hilarious. After 20 minutes, he said, “Alright then, what are you doing in April?”

Do you remember the first Alien film you saw?

Oh, man, my friend’s older brother showed it to me when I was far too young to see it. But I am pretty sure the first thing I saw of the original was John Hurt’s iconic chest-burster scene.

How scary is this one?

With Ridley at the helm, it’s a safe bet that it will be pretty terrifying. He is just the master of freaking people out. There are some pretty gory bits as well, which is definitely a return to the aesthetic of the original Alien.
