How Goldie and Kurt make it work

Hollywood is littered with relationships that have collapsed under the weight of competing work schedules and intense public scrutiny. But there is one union that’s always kept fans believing in lasting love – the steadfast romance between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

The couple have been together for 34 years and although they’ve never wed, Goldie, 71, and Kurt, 66, made it clear last week that they’re as crazy about each other now as the day they first met – kissing, cuddling and cracking each other up as they received joint stars on the hallowed Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The touching ceremony was so heartfelt, it could almost have been mistaken for the wedding that they never had – a fact that certainly wasn’t lost on Goldie’s famous daughter Kate Hudson, who is estranged from her biological father Bill Hudson and regards Kurt as her deeply admired father figure.

“I was slotted in to talk about my mother, but I have two parents and they’re both here,” a proud Kate said in her speech in Los Angeles. “I always thought I’d be talking about them at a wedding or something, but since a wedding doesn’t seem to be in our near future, this seems to be my only opportunity.”

‘Icherishyou’

Currently making a hotly anticipated comeback in the Amy Schumer comedy Snatched after a 15-year hiatus from films, Goldie herself joked, “Can we just get married? We’ve never had a celebration like this before! This means more to me as I start reflecting on things. That star is part of me saying yes to Kurt.”

Meanwhile, the DeathProof actor made the crowd swoon as he spoke of the impact his love-filled partnership has had on his life. “Simply put, Goldie, I cherish you,” Kurt declared. “All of the stars in the sky or the boulevard don’t hold a candle to that. There’s no-one else I’d rather be next to.”

One of showbiz’s most enduring couples, Goldie and Kurt met in 1968 on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, when she was 21 and he was 16. Initially, she didn’t act on her attraction to him as she thought he was too young.

But when their paths crossed again on the set of the 1983 flick SwingShift – after Goldie had split from her first husband, dancer Gus Trikonis, 79, and second husband Bill, 67, with whom she shares children Kate, 38, and Oliver, 40 – she couldn’t deny her feelings any longer.
