Kim and Kanye’s surrogacy shock
Not to be outdone by their famous pals Beyoncé and Jay Z, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are also expecting twins!
Woman’s Day can reveal that the reality TV star and her rapper husband are having the babies – a boy and a girl – via a surrogate. And despite Kim’s sadness at being unable to carry the precious tots herself, she’s over the moon with the happy news.
“Kim and Kanye can’t believe how lucky they are,” tells a source close to the celebrity couple. “They’ve had such a tough year, but things are finally looking up and they can’t wait to meet their new additions early next year.”
Mum-of-two Kim, 36, first started talking about surrogacy in November last year, after doctors warned her against another pregnancy. The star suffered the life-threatening condition placenta accreta, which can stop the organ from leaving the body, while carrying both North, four, and Saint, one.
“If the two doctors that I trust have told me it wouldn’t be safe for me to get pregnant again, I have to listen to that,” Kim said, before confessing she was afraid of letting someone else carry her babies. “I think my biggest fear if I had a surrogate is: Would I love them the same? That’s the main thing I keep thinking about.”
But a source tells us that after months of soul-searching, Kim and Kanye, 40, decided to sign up to a surrogacy agency and were soon put in touch with a Californian mum who was keen to help. As part of the IVF process, they’re even said to have done “gender selection” to ensure a boy and a girl baby.

“Kim and Kanye have met their surrogate several times now at her home and they feel totally comfortable with her,” says the insider. “She’s in her 30s and already has a child. It’s been a top-secret operation and their main concern is keeping the woman’s identity secret so her pregnancy stays as stress-free as possible.”
The celebrity couple, whose marriage is said to finally be in a good place after a rocky patch, have put together a list of strict rules for their surrogate. She mustn’t smoke, drink or take drugs, and must stick to a healthy diet, as well as taking regular exercise classes and meditation for stress relief.
It’s believed they’ll pay out close to $1 million before their baby’s birth in security protection, rent, living expenses and a “babysitter” for the woman carrying their children.
“Besides the surrogacy fees, Kim and Kanye have hired five
bodyguards for the surrogate, as well as a babysitter to attend to the woman’s daily needs,” says the insider. “Kim and Kanye also rented the surrogate a luxury home outside of LA to live in while she’s pregnant, with the hope that the peaceful and upscale surroundings will give her an easy and healthy pregnancy. Kim and Kanye are also paying a living stipend that includes clothes, a nutritionist, meal delivery and a personal trainer to keep her healthy.”
And Kim, who last week claimed that recent unflattering photos of her bottom were photoshopped, is delighted that this time she’ll avoid the 30kg-weight gain of her previous pregnancies.
“She’s got her body the way she likes it now and she couldn’t face packing on a ton of weight again,” tells our insider. “She puts so much work into her figure, she hates the thought of it all going to waste.”
The surrogacy news comes on the back of a difficult 12 months for Kim and Kanye, who’ve been dogged by divorce rumours. In October last year, Kim was bound, gagged and held at gunpoint during a terrifying robbery in Paris. And just months later, Kanye was hospitalised after suffering a breakdown.
“It’s been the hardest year of her life without a doubt,” tells the insider. “But she’s stood by Kanye and together they’re stronger for it. They’ve finally come out the other side, and what better way to celebrate than to welcome twins!”
Indeed, Kim herself admitted recently that the ordeal had only cemented her desire for more children.
“Kanye and I have always talked about having more kids,” she admitted. “But after what I went through in Paris, the urgency is even greater.”
