Stumbling in her heels and staggering across the carriage, it was hardly the elegant entrance to Royal Ascot that the Countess of Wessex was hoping for. Fortunately for Sophie, 52, fellow passenger Kate had quick reactions and held out her arms to catch Prince Edward’s wife before she could fall on top of her!

After the awkward moment, both ladies clearly saw the funny side, howling with laughter in the 30°C heat at Windsor Great Park as they prepared to make their way into the Berkshire racecourse with the rest of the royal family.

?? ?? “Catch me, Kate!” Sophie breaks her stride, but our duchess is quick off the mark. Then it’s laughs all round as balance is restored. Left: The look of love on raceday.
