Eva Mendes famously once claimed that wives who wear orange Crocs are the leading cause of divorce, but it’s not a mere fashion fauxpas that is destroying her relationship with Ryan Gosling!

Insiders say the actress, 43, and her hunky husband – who share daughters Esmeralda, two, and Amada, one – are on shaky ground because Ryan, 36, continues to prioritise his busy career over his family.

“Eva prefers to stay out of the public eye, but Ryan has been forced into the spotlight since his career-defining role in LaLaLand and his huge success has driven a wedge between them,” explains a source close to the couple. “When they first got together, they were inseparable, but things are increasingly difficult.”

We’re told that Hitch star Eva – who hasn’t appeared on screens since 2014 – is growing increasingly resentful of her hubby, whose Hollywood star continues to rise. Currently touring the globe to promote his new film BladeRunner

2049, Ryan will also soon play Neil Armstrong in FirstMan, leaving his wife at home to care for their two children.

“Eva tries to be as understanding as possible, but Ryan’s packed schedule has led to arguments,” adds the source. “Particularly as some scenes in FirstMan are due to be shot in Atlanta while she’ll be with the kids in LA.”

The mum-of-two is said to be very sensitive about Ryan’s history of hooking up with his leading ladies, including Sandra Bullock and Rachel McAdams. After all, Eva herself only began dating Ryan after they met on the set of 2012 film The Place Beyond the Pines.

“Ryan’s behaviour hardly amounts to infidelity, but it’s no secret that Eva has got a serious jealous streak,” says an insider. “Ryan is always telling her that she has nothing to worry about, but this certainly doesn’t help his case. He definitely has some explaining to do when he gets back to LA, especially considering all of the sacrifices Eva has made for his career.”
