When Jennifer Lawrence first hooked up with her much-older lover Darren Aronofsky, loved ones were worried about the 21-year age gap. She’d already been hurt by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and they feared the 26-year-old star of The HungerGames was setting herself up for another fall.
But Woman’sDay can reveal Jennifer and 48-year-old film director Darren are more in love than ever – and about to prove their doubters wrong by announcing their engagement!
“They’ve been together a year and from very early on both of them knew it was the real deal. They’ve quietly agreed they’ll wed but make the news official on Jennifer’s birthday on August 15,” a close friend discloses. “Darren is whisking her away somewhere secret and very romantic to celebrate and they just can’t wait to share their excitement! Jen’s giddy about the prospect of sporting a big rock on her finger.”

And our insider says that it’s likely they’ll be married by the end of the year, quickly followed by a baby.
“Jen is absolutely crazy about Darren – and despite the age difference, they are a perfect match. They make a really cute couple. Jen’s very, very happy with Darren and can’t wait to be his wife.
“She’s turning 27 soon and it’s always been her intention to be a young mum and have three or four kids, but she’s an old-fashioned girl and believes in being married before starting a family.”
Indeed, the actress first started dropping hints about tying the knot last December when she stepped out with a ring on her engagement finger, says the friend.
“It caused Darren to raise an eyebrow and when he asked Jen if that’s what she wanted, she looked him straight in the eyes and said ‘yes’,” reveals the source. “They have been talking about it seriously for the past couple of months.”
The pair met over a year ago, after meeting on the set of Darren’s movie Mother!. Jennifer had recently ended her ill-fated fling with Chris, 40, and was still healing from the end of her four-year relationship with X-Men co-star Nicholas Hoult, 27.
“Jen wasn’t looking for love but there was an instant attraction with Darren. Despite his age, he has a very boyish way about him and their relationship just works. He’s very grounded and sensible.”
He also has an 11-year-old son, Henry, by ex-fiancée Rachel Weisz, who Jennifer was recently seen strolling with in New York.
“Jen and Henry get on great and she feels very comfortable with him. He’s really brought out her maternal instincts,” says the source.
In fact, our insider says that Jennifer and Rachel, who is now married to James Bond star Daniel Craig, have met several times, and the English-born actress has given her blessing to the star being stepmum to her son.
Says the source, “Jen has matured a lot since meeting Darren. Sure, she still has her crazy moments, but she is not going out partying all the time like she used to.”
Part of this turnaround can be attributed to Jennifer largely quitting Hollywood and spending most of her time in New York. Although she has her own pad, she spends half her time at Darren’s house in the East Village and the pair are planning to buy their own love nest after they’re married.

“Darren’s current place is where he lived with Rachel for many years and still has some of her stuff in there – and certainly a lot of memories of her,” tells the pal. “Jen’s not the jealous type and knows that Darren has moved on from Rachel, but she wants them to have a place they can truly call their own.”
The source insists that the couple won’t have a long engagement and pals are predicting either a huge, glamorous wedding
in the Big Apple or a low-key family affair in Jennifer’s hometown of Kentucky.
“Their wedding could happen even as soon as Christmas,” continues the insider. “It’s most likely to be a New York marriage but Jen likes the idea of tying the knot at her local church back home too.
“She definitely wants to get married in white and has been checking out fairytale gowns already.
“Jen really is loved up and happier than she’s ever been right now. She just can’t wait to say I do.”
