The truth behind Anna and Chris’ shock split
One of Hollywood’s most admired relationships came tumbling down last week when Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced the end of their eight-year marriage.
And sources close to the loveable comic duo – parents to four-year-old son Jack – tell Woman’sDay that in the end it was Chris’ flirting and Anna’s growing insecurity that killed their dreams of a future together.
“When they first met, Anna was the bigger star. Chris was a nobody,” a well-placed source tells us exclusively. “But then Anna took a back seat to care for Jack and Chris’ career took off big-time. He’s become a huge sex symbol thanks to starring roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World, and their marriage has crumbled.”
Mom actress Anna, 40, and Parks and Recreation star Chris, 38, announced last week, “We tried hard for a long time and we’re really disappointed ... We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect.”
When Anna first met Chris in 2007 as co-stars on Take
MeHomeTonight, she was enamoured by her on-screen boyfriend. “I was struck by how good he was,” she said at the time. “Instantly my respect and regard for him went through the roof.”
Indeed, even Chris was shocked by how quickly he fell for the blonde. “I knew I wanted to marry her pretty soon after I met her,” he said. “It took a while for me to admit because it would be crazy.”
Roving eye
Despite the instant attraction, their relationship never fully recovered after reports in 2015 that Chris had become close to his Passengers co-star Jennifer Lawrence, 27, who now dates director Darren Aronofsky, 48.
Anna said at the time she was “blindsided” by the rumours, adding, “It has been weirdly stinging.”
And it turns out there was more, with rumours that Chris got close to Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in the Guardian soft he Galaxy Vol .2.
“It got back to Anna that they became quite flirty and at one point Chris had his hand on Karen’s rear, and his mouth was right on her neck long after the director yelled ‘cut’.”
Adding fuel to the fire, our source says that at the MTV awards last year Chris flirted openly with a blonde assistant.
Four months later Anna confessed on her “Anna Faris is Unqualified” podcast , “In this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in LA raising our child, of course I’m going to feel vulnerable, like any normal human would.”
Tells our insider, “Things got to the point where Chris was getting hit on daily by supermodels, actresses and waitresses. Anna became convinced that he had strayed more than once.
“She began calling and texting him all day long to check up on him and it really turned Chris off. They went to counselling to try to get the fire back but it was useless,” explains the source. “He told their therapist that he thought Anna had turned into a crazy person. She’d spent thousands of dollars hiring a private detective to catch him out.
“His meteoric rise to fame has just made it too easy for him to get any girl he wants, and although he loves and respects Anna, he is ready to be single. She is heartbroken but also feels she can no longer trust her husband.”
