Q I’ve just left a marriage of 14 years and I’m thinking of dating again. I’ve met a nice fellow from work and I’d be keen to take him up on an offer of dinner, but what happens if he wants to go further? I don’t have any friends I can ask about condom etiquette and, if I do have to buy some, which ones are best?

●● Getting Out There, Te Kuiti

A Firstly, there is really no etiquette. You are in charge of your body, so go forward, take charge and buy your own. And clearly the same goes for him! The more condom parity there is in the world, the better. So invest in something standard and safe. Lelo is one of my favourite brands and I recommend their Hex Condoms, which are designed to be ultra-thin and maximise sensitivity for ultimate pleasure.

But if you are looking to start your new sexual adventure with a bit of extra flavour, why not invest in Four Seasons Naked Allsorts Condoms? They come in delicious Banana, Strawberry and Chocolate flavours – and they are so sheer, it will feel like he’s wearing nothing at all! Pop one in your purse and your bedside table – that way you are covered for wherever and whenever you begin this exciting new chapter.

Q I am so curious to try anal sex but I’m very worried I’ll get hurt as my boyfriend isn’t experienced at all. We’re quite young and only just lost our virginity to each other. I hate the idea of pornography, so I don’t want to watch anything online, but I don’t know how to learn more.

Curious, Dunedin

A I appreciate this isn’t a subject that you’ll find on most best-seller shelves at your local bookshop – and probably not something you’ll turn to your parents for advice on. I also commend you for really thinking about this new step and wanting to know more. The Anal Sex Position Guide by Tristan Taormino will give you some great technical help on safety, technicalities and position. What was once considered to be a very taboo practice seems to be slowly making its way into more mainstream conversation. Do not feel guilty or weird about your curiosity. It’s your wonderful body and you have every right to be as experimental with it as you like. Knowledge is power, so grab a copy of the guide from the Peaches and Cream website and get reading!

Q My girlfriend is getting married to a guy in the navy and he travels a lot. The other hens and I want to get her a killer gift for her party that will make her blush and hopefully keep her entertained when she is on her lonesome. Do you have any ideas for a bride-to-be who needs to live a little?

Naughty Hen, Tauranga

A Getting generic sex toys for somebody else can be a bit of a stab in the dark and you risk wasting your money. One way around this, however, is to go for quality versus quantity. At the top end of the scale, why not go for some Rolls-Royce treatment? The Intent Gift Set by Lelo is a three-piece pleasure set that’s perfect for some solo time – with a rabbit-style massager, a handheld massager that responds to sound and a signature personal moisturiser. She will love it!
