Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s letter

- ASHLEIGH MCENANEY ASSISTANT EDITOR, WOMAN’S DAY

Is it possi possible I was as excited a as Art and Matilda w when I heard the news the happy couple w were engaged?! Like all of the their die-hard fans, I was gluedgl to the screen as the charming, chiselled Bach Bachelor swept the lovable blonde off her feet – theirs truly was a match made in reality-TV heaven.

In Art’s words, marrying Matilda wasn’t a question of if, but when, with Mr Romantic choosing their idyllic trip to the white sands of Rarotonga to get down on bended knee (page 8). Dreamy!

For a long time (before I met my Fijian prince, of course), my colleagues would joke that I should sign up to the show. Instead, this hopeless romantic got assigned to cover it in the mag, where I inadvertently became an awkward third wheel in the couple’s fairytale romance. I was there when Art delivered Matilda his final rose, when the couple said the L word, for their first Christmas, when they holidayed in New York and Hawaii, and finally when Art proposed.

We are friends in real life now, which is why I’m eagerly waiting in the wings for the bridesmaid call-up. Who wouldn’t want a frontrow seat to what’s sure to be a truly magical occasion?

Speaking of weddings, it really is a right reality-TV lovefest this week with The Block NZ’s Yanita and Julia both proudly showing off their fiancés (pages 16 & 18).

And even Woman’s Day is feeling the aroha. At the recent Magazine Media Awards, we received an Exceptional Sales Award for our Richie and Gemma McCaw wedding issue, and Sido took out Best Editor for another year. What a mentor!
