MEGHAN’S MARRIAGE & THE PRICE OF FAME

-

Luminous with love in the Caribbean sunshine, Meghan Markle looked every inch a joyful bride as she married film producer Trevor Engelson in Jamaica in 2011. But within two years of their beach wedding, which featured rum punch and wheelbarrow races in the white sand, the relationship became a casualty of their career ambitions.

The pair, who met in 2004, began married life in a house on Los Angeles’ Sunset Strip, but the actress had just scored her big career break in Suits, so she commuted between California and Toronto. Trevor remained in the marital home to stay close to Hollywood. “It put a strain on the relationship,” reports a friend. “Trevor was in LA making movies, Meghan was in another country and it simply took its toll.”

The actress decided to end their marriage, with the couple separating in early 2013 and divorced by August, citing irreconcilable differences. Trevor, now 41, kept the house, while Meghan moved permanently to Toronto. He is now producing a TV comedy about a divorced couple, with the ex-wife marrying into the British royal family.

Meghan’s next romance was with Canadian celebrity chef Cory Vitiello, who she met in 2014 – although a confidante reports, “It was a superficial relationship. They both put their careers first.”

The couple were already on the rocks by the time Meghan met a certain prince in 2016.
