Their arms around each other, her head resting lovingly on his shoulder, there was no denying Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson are officially an item as the unlikely couple shared a romantic stroll along Malibu Beach.
The cosy outing came just two days after the pair were pictured together for the very first time, on a dinner date at a Los Angeles restaurant, perhaps not coincidentally in the same week that his former wife Gwyneth Paltrow confirmed her engagement to
Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk. Now Woman’s Day can reveal that the Coldplay frontman is readying Dakota, 28, to meet his Oscar-winning ex, 45, and her new fiancé, 46. It’s Chris’ hope they’ll form a strong bond and become one big, blended, modern family for the sake of his children, Apple, 13, and Moses, 11.
“Chris is serious about Dakota and after his split from Annabelle Wallis, he realised how important it is to include his girlfriends in all aspects of his life,” reports a source close to Chris, 40, speaking exclusively to us. “Annabelle always felt very left out from his ‘other life’ with Gwyneth and the kids, who she only met a handful of times.
“As soon as Dakota had met his kids, Chris knew he wanted to enter a full-blown relationship with her and he made a conscious effort to include Dakota in his life. He was very open and honest about how Gwyneth is still a huge part of that, and how if they are going to have a future, it’s important she can embrace that on all
levels and form a relationship with Gwyneth.”
Dakota began dating Chris in October, four months after his split from Peaky
Blinders star Annabelle, 33, and it has taken some time for the FiftyShadesFreed actress to understand her new boyfriend’s “conscious uncoupling” from Gwyneth.
We’re told Dakota is still coming to terms with their close friendship and family holidays, but she has agreed to a meeting, which will happen any day now.
“Dakota will join the couple to start a 10-step process for introducing a new partner into their family, just as they did with Brad, with the help of one of Gwyneth’s lifestyle gurus,” reports our source.
“This includes bonding with Gwyn and emotionally detaching herself from jealous feelings when it comes to giving Chris time with his ex, so she can become an integrated part of the family.”
While vacationing in Antigua with Gwyneth and the kids recently, Chris bought Dakota a topaz and gold ring as a symbol of his commitment, and he was talking to her via FaceTime throughout the trip.
Just days after their romantic stroll on Malibu Beach, Chris and Dakota were seen holding hands at Stella McCartney’s fashion show in Los Angeles. “They didn’t leave each other’s side,” reports a witness.
“This relationship is definitely heating up,” says our source. “They’re talking about making their first proper er public appearance at the Grammys later this month – and Gwyn might even join them on the red carpet!”
