When Sam Frost received the news that she had landed a role on the iconic Australian drama

HomeandAway last year, she was ecstatic. Like most acting newcomers, the opportunity to call Summer Bay home was simply a dream come true.

But, sadly, not everyone was celebrating her victory. Shortly after the announcement, the former star of TheBachelorette

Australia was hit with a tsunami of criticism and her social media was inundated with trolls labelling her a “publicity stunt” for the show.

“I can understand why people would say, ‘Hang on, isn’t that the chick from The

Bachelorette?’” the 28-year-old tells Woman’sDay. “But people don’t see the months of gruelling hard work I did in the lead-up to it.”

As it turns out, this wasn’t the first time that Sam had auditioned for the show.

“I didn’t get the role that I originally auditioned for and had to go through the process again,” she explains. “I can understand the criticism, but it was unfair that no-one spoke to me about the work or process I’d gone through – they based their opinions on the surface.”

Amid the ongoing hardships, Sam has come full circle in learning more about herself. As she enters her late 20s, the TV personality appreciates how far she’s come.

“Four years ago, I was very naive,” she tells, referring to her first stint in reality TV on The

BachelorAustralia. “The show creates unnecessary drama and the more you try to get out of it, the deeper you end up.”

After being proposed to by leading man Blake Garvey in the 2014 finale of the Aussie reality series, Sam was later left heartbroken when he dumped her for third runner-up Louise Pullidge and left her to face a media storm.

“It’s been four or five years now I’ve been facing criticism,” she tells. “At times, I’ve been so consumed by it all, it’s sad, awful and isolating.”

After picking herself up, Sam put her heart on the line again in

TheBacheloretteAustralia. She found love with construction manager Sasha Mielczarek, but dating in the spotlight proved difficult and they split after 18 months. “I was in my 20s and dating publicly,” recalls Sam. “It can be quite difficult at times – you go through a lot of ups and downs.”

But she has no regrets and today Sam looks every inch the picture of health and happiness. With a new boyfriend and career that’s going from strength to strength, life simply couldn’t be better for the rising TV star.

“It’s totally sweet,” Sam says of her love story with navy diver Dave Bashford. “We’ve been best friends for years, before I was ever on TheBachelor. He just has a laugh about it all, but his opinion doesn’t change. I’m the same daggy Sam!”

While she says she can understand the interest in her love life, she’s choosing to keep details of this relationship close to her chest.

“People are familiar with my story and are incredibly supportive, which is lovely,” she says. “But now I’ve moved into acting, it’s nice to have more of a private life when it comes to dating.”

Looking ahead, Sam is all about embracing life, including her role as Jasmine Delaney in

“It’s exciting because I grew up watching the show,” she says. “I remember watching all those episodes as a kid and now I feel so blessed to be part of the family.”
