Charlotte says yes to her prince!

In a year already filled with royal celebrations, there’s another wedding to add to the list! Charlotte Casiraghi, Grace Kelly’s granddaughter, is engaged to be married and the match is something straight from a Hollywood movie.

Charlotte, 31, was on a family skiing trip in Austria when Dimitri Rassam, her boyfriend of more than a year, popped the question. The best twist of all? Film producer Dimitri, 36, is the son of French actress Carole Bouquet, who just so happens to be the best friend of Charlotte’s mum, Princess Caroline of Monaco.

Rumours had been swirling for a while that the pair were newly engaged, with no official word from the palace. But no further proof was needed after Charlotte and Dimitri attended

the red carpet for their first official event together, the lavish Monaco’s annual charity Rose Ball – and all eyes were on the whopping great diamond ring sitting pride of place on Charlotte’s engagement finger.

Despite the fact that their mums are besties, the pair – who are reportedly set to be married in July – first met after being introduced by friends over dinner in December 2016.

They kept things low-key for a long time but subtly acknowledged the relationship in a very sweet and classy way back at last year’s charity Rose Ball. Charlotte didn’t attend with Dimitri, but she did wear a vintage gown of her mother’s, which Caroline had worn to an event in 2000 that she attended with Dimitri’s mum Carole.

Charlotte and Dimitri

have similarly captivating backgrounds – they both grew up in opulent surroundings, Charlotte in royalty, Dimitri as the child of a famous actress and film producer.

But they both experienced profound tragedy early on as well. Charlotte’s father, Stefano Casiraghi, was killed in a powerboat race when she was just four and Dimitri’s father, Jean-Pierre Rassam, died of an overdose when Dimitri was three years old.

They also have another, more uplifting, thing in common – they’re both parents from previous relationships. Dimitri has a six-year-old daughter, Darya, with his ex-wife, Russian model Masha Novoselova. Charlotte has four-year-old son Raphael with her ex partner, 46-year-old French comedian Gad Elmaleh.

As a glamorous European couple, Charlotte and Dimitri split their time between Los Angeles, Paris and Morocco, and while there is no confirmed location for the wedding, it’s believed they could tie the knot in Sicily, where Dimitri’s mother has a vineyard.

And they’re not the only members of the royal family with big news – Charlotte’s brother Pierre Casiraghi and wife Beatrice Borromeo are expecting their second child in May, and her cousin Louis Ducruet – son of Princess Stephanie – has just announced his engagement to girlfriend Marie Chevallier.

If you add on Prince Harry’s wedding in May and Princess Eugenie’s wedding in October, the royal social calendar is looking pretty jam-packed for 2018!
