QUEEN OF THE SCREEN

Elizabeth Hurley dishes on life filming The Royals

-

If you could play another character on the show, who would it be?

I would’ve been cast as Princess Eleanor 20 years ago and I would have enjoyed it. Maybe Joan Collins would have had my part. It’d be a different show – maybe worse!

What would your younger self thinknk of you playing the Queen??

Growing up, I was a huge fan of the royal family and we used to long for a royal wedding so that we’d get the day off school. I always played the Queen or a princess in our make-believe eve game games, making my friends be my ladies-inwaiting, s so nothing’s chan changed!

What’s the best part of getting to work on The Royals?

Actors love filming because even though we work brutal hours and spend our weekends learning our lines, we all love being part of a gang. The cast and crew are like a huge, extended family – it’s a great feeling to belong to it.

What’s been a career highlight so far?

I’d never modelled before, so becoming the face of Estée Lauder at 29 seemed like a miracle and, even more miraculously, I’m still under contract today. The company is like a second family to me.

What goes on behind the scenes?

When it’s an ensemble scene and most of the cast is there, we get silly and giggly. In the industry, laughing during a scene is called “corpsing”. William Moseley, who plays Prince Liam, can make me laugh a lot. Once you’ve got the giggles, you have to avoid eye contact or you corpse. The director puts up with us for a bit and then we all get told off!
