Romance rumours have been rumbling for years, but it looks like the time is finally right for Rihanna and Robert Pattinson, with their mutual pal Katy Perry setting them up on a string of secret dates.
“Rihanna and Rob have always had the hots for each other but have never quite got together until now,” reveals a well-placed source, speaking exclusively to Woman’sDay.
“They’ve had their little hook-ups in the past, but nothing ever came of them. But now they’re both single again for the first time in ages and Katy thought they’d be perfect for each other.” Earlier this month, the
Ocean’s8 actress, 30, split from Saudi billionaire Hassan Jameel, 29, after just under a year together, with a pal saying she’d “grown tired” of their long-distance love and “broke his heart”.
Meanwhile, Robert, 32, has been flying solo since ending things with his girlfriend of three years, singer FKA Twigs, 30, last October amid rumours she was jealous of his close friendship with Rihanna.
But it was Katy, 33, who played matchmaker after Rihanna whinged to her about her relationship woes at the Met Gala back in May.
“Rihanna moaned that she’d always envisaged she would have settled down with ‘the one’ and be married with a couple of kids by now,” says our source. “That’s when Katy suggested she get in touch with Rob. Katy knows there has always been a spark between Rob and Rihanna. She could never understand why they aren’t together.”
Also keen to have someone special in his life and still carrying a flame for the “Wild Thoughts” singer, Robert agreed to a secret date with Rihanna in New York – and they’ve since met up in Los Angeles too, although they’re desperate to keep the budding romance under wraps.
Our source says, “Rob is fiercely private and Rihanna loves the drama of secretly dating someone, but make no mistake, they’re really keen on each other. Katy would love nothing more than to see them get married and live happily ever after!”
