HOW HOTTEST RADIO HUNK CHANGED ROG’S LIFE

After f three h months h of shaking his stuff for Dancingwith theStars, he’s arguably hotter and hunkier than ever, but Roger Farrelly is glad he’s ineligible to win the Woman’sDay title of New Zealand’s Hottest Radio Hunk for the second year in a row.

After all, how would he top that shirtless beach photo shoot or those infamous pictures of him in his boxers?

“I’m four or five kilos lighter and trimmer, but you still don’t want to see me in a G-string,” explains the longtime presenter of The Rock’s Morning Rumble breakfast show. “Actually, I don’t think there are any male radio announcers you want to see in a G-string, except maybe my co-host Andrew Mulligan.”

Winning last year’s trophy was “a dream” for Rog, 45, who lives in Orewa, Auckland.

“What a year!” he says. “It got me a bit of a profile and then the next thing you know, I’m on Dancing. The producers must’ve seen how many votes I got for Hottest Hunk and figured I’d get some support on TV too.

“Now I’ve got a massive audience from all walks of life – everyone from kids to grandmothers – and more attention than I’ve ever had in my life. I even got a free burger and chips at a restaurant the other day!”

But Rog’s wife, shy teacher Lisa, will be glad when her husband’s reign as Hottest Radio Hunk comes to end.

He tells, “She wanted to keep the photo shoot a secret, which I said was impossible because half her colleagues read the magazine, and sure enough, she got to school to find Woman’sDay mags open all over the staff room and a big pin-up of me on the wall. She’s rapt I’m not running this year.”

The same goes for their daughters, Olivia, 17, and Grace, 13, tells Rog. “They were my biggest supporters and got their mates to vote for me every day, but they went right off it when they saw the shot of me in my undies.”

The top 10 finalists for

this year’s Hottest Radio Hunk have been revealed in this issue (page 6) and voting is now open on nowtolove.co.nz until September 9.

Rog says, “There are a lot of announcers going for it and there’s a lot of desperation coming through. Robert Scott from The Breeze really wants it, but he might be trying too hard.”

Rog’s pick to win it is More FM’s Gary McCormick. He explains, “The regional guys from Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay will give it a good go, but Gary’s got a big audience and name recognition. If he runs a strong campaign, he’ll be hard to beat. I hope he realises what he’s getting himself into!”
