BLOCK REVEAL SHELLEY’S UP FOR THE CHALLENGE!
The style guru shares her thoughts on the reality reno show
What do you like most about being part of The Block NZ?
I really like that it’s a show families enjoy watching together. Kids love backing a team, the competitive challenges and the funny interludes, while parents enjoy the drama, DIY and design. It really taps into that Kiwi culture of giving something a go and really captures people’s imagination.
Which team is your favourite this year?
All the teams are great and have the coolest qualities! The ones who make me laugh the most, though, are Chloe and Emily. I can’t even look at them without smiling. They’ve always got a cheeky plan, random dance or hilarious interpretation of something.
Which room has inspired you the most so far?
It would have to be Amy and Stu’s girl’s bedroom. I’m not even a girly girl and I wanted to stay in there for hours! It’s so beautiful, well-executed and has a secret loft – every girl’s dream.
What do your two sons think of the programme?
My boys love the show! I’m very excited to finally be getting some mum-cred. They’ve been too young to appreciate it in the past, but now they’re five [Jett] and six [Flynn], they get a kick out of seeing Mummy on TV. They were obsessed with Ben and Tom until they met Amy and Stu’s builder Dave, who totally charmed them. Now they’re asking to visit the site every day!
How do you handle the working mum juggle?
Plan, plan, plan! The Block makes things much easier by giving me the same filming times each week, which is a lifesaver. It’s definitely busy – the main reason I manage is that my awesome hubby really steps up while I’m filming.
