Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s note

-

All mums will recall the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with having a baby. Parenting a newborn is a time full of joy and excitement, but also fears and challenges.

I loved nesting with my babies, but the juggle was real. Even finding time to take a shower and get dressed felt like a military operation. The planning and thought needed to go on an outing was intense – baby bag, nappies, pram, bottles, clothes, car seat, etc.

Indeed, I still get hassled by my friend Kylie for visiting her on the far side of town and realising – mid-change – that I’d forgotten nappies. I had to use a tea towel until I could get to the supermarket. Usually I was organised, but every mum will relate to baby brain!

So when I saw the serene face of Kendall MacDonald in this week’s Woman’s Day as she cradled not one, but four babies, I thought, “Wow!” Timaru couple Kendall and Joshua are proud parents to miracle quads – tiny 13-weekold Molly, Quinn, Indie and Hudson, siblings for threeyear-old Brooklyn.

The MacDonalds’ story is nothing short of amazing. They struggled to have a second child and had a miscarriage before seeking fertility help. Within a short time, Kendall fell pregnant and was shocked – but delighted – to learn they were expecting quads. It’s easy to cut to the picture of Kendall and Joshua holding their wee babies, but when you stop to think about how hard a pregnancy with four babies must have been – let alone the critical weeks in hospital after a premature birth … Well, it’s nothing short of astonishing, really. And considering the parents have their hands full, news editor Lynley Ward was amazed at how relaxed and organised they are. These quads certainly picked the right parents to bless!

Won’t it be wonderful to follow Molly, Quinn, Indie and Hudson as they grow up? Can you imagine birthdays and Christmas in the MacDonald house in years to come? They don’t know it yet, but these little Kiwis are extraordinary. Kendall, Joshua – and let’s not forget Brooklyn – thank you for letting us meet your beautiful babies. Our heartfelt congratulations from us all.
