Coro’s Kym

“I’m going to be a young gran!”

She was only 18 when she became a mum and now Coronation

Street favourite Kym Marsh is set to be a grandmother at the tender age of 42!

The actress is thrilled with the news her 21-year-old daughter, beautician Emilie, is expecting a child, saying, “We’re over the moon. It makes me feel so emotional that my baby is having a baby of her own. I’ve always looked forward to having grandkids, although I’m not relishing being called Grandma, so I’ve been researching alternative names.”

Kym, who plays Michelle O’Connor on the iconic Brit soap, was by Emilie’s side as her daughter did the pregnancy test. She says, “When I saw it was positive, I started crying my eyes out, I was so overwhelmed. I know what it’s like to be young and pregnant. It’s scary, but Emilie will be a great mum.”

Due in May, Emilie says, “I’m still in shock. I’ve not had any signs of being pregnant. I’ve not had any morning sickness, so it still doesn’t feel real. I can’t wait to be a mum, but I’m petrified too.”

She hasn’t named the father, but describes him as “really supportive” and “really excited”. She says, “I’m really lucky to have him.”

As for nana-to-be Kym – who is also a mother to David, 23, and Polly, seven – she’s only been dating her boyfriend Scott Ratcliffe for six months, but the army major is very excited for the new arrival.

The former Hear’Say singer tells, “He’s really looking forward to it. He’s away on tour at the moment, so he’s gutted because he feels like he’s missing out. He can’t receive pictures, so he keeps texting me, saying, ‘How’s Emilie? Has she got a bump yet?’ He’s only 30, but he joked, ‘Does this make me Gramps? Because I’m alright with that!’ He’s been great.”

Meanwhile, the baby won’t be the only new addition to the family. Kym’s just got a long-haired Chihuahua, named Lola, as a sister for her King Charles spaniel Rico.

With Emilie planning to stay at her mother’s house for the baby’s first year, it sounds like the Coro star will have one busy household next year!
