GRACE’S FRIEND ZONE

From police work to family drama

-

After an impressive seven years on Hawaii Five-O,

Grace Park is taking on a new challenge with the TV drama A Million Little Things.

The 44-year-old actress, who first shot to fame on Battlestar

Galactica, plays straight-talking career woman Katherine, who is forced to re-evaluate the future when one of her friends takes his own life. Grace tells

Woman’s Day more about the moving new show.

What do you love most about your character?

This T is about a group of friends. Katherine’s in that group, but at the same time, she’s not really – she's not in the inner circle. I find that’s a real release of pressure and it leaves a lot of room for her just to be real.

Why is it important for the show to tackle difficult subjectmatter?

These are real things that are affecting people, whether it be depression, Alzheimer’s, battling with drug use … There are so many things that we’re going through and to be able to look at it really just helps us tot reflect. And if you’re not going through the same thing, it might help you or give you more of an understanding. u

What does friendship mean to you?

In this day and age, friendships are hatched in all sorts of places – in chat rooms, through video games, etc. It’s going to be different depending what age you are and what culture you’re in, but the important thing is that there’s an affinity and ideally a sense of trust. It’s important to know that it’s not about never screwing up, but if you do screw up, you are able to admit it and the other person is able to forgive.

How did it feel leaving Hawaii Five-O?

There were a number of factors spanning the show that affected the non-renewal of my contract. I’m grateful for the lessons learned, but I chose what was best for my integrity.
