Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s letter

- SIDO KITCHIN EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, WOMAN’S DAY

Life is full of ups and downs, and the pages of Woman’s Day reflect that roller coaster every week of the year. Even royals aren’t exempt from tough times, and the popular Cambridges have experienced both happiness and heartache in 2018. But Kate and William’s lovely family portrait that graces our cover captures what’s most important in the world – those we love. I’m besotted with the charming shot, especially little Louis’ grin, as it shows that despite all the troubles in the world, the health and happiness of our family are what matters most.

As I head off with my whanau to enjoy a break in Ohope and the Coromandel, it’s a chance for reflection on a full and frantic year. My family’s had its fair share of emotional times, but I’m choosing to think about all the positives I’m grateful for.

I’ve had wonderful trips to far corners of New Zealand – to the beautiful Bay of Islands, the havens of Hawke’s Bay and Nelson, from the West Coast to Canterbury via the Tranz Alpine train, and to snowy Queenstown. I’m lucky to have seen so much of this amazing place we call home this year and hope you all get away this summer.

My husband and I have enjoyed watching our children blossom. Darcy, nine, has shot up and his confidence is growing – and the whole neighbourhood can hear it in his drumming! Cleo is 15 and becoming a lovely young woman. She has her first proper holiday job at our local supermarket and when we spy on her from the aisles, our hearts burst with pride. The kids are doing great.

Our pre-Christmas Christmas was a wild success and it was brilliant to see family young and old – 25 gathered at our place – have such a happy day.

And for me, I’m so thankful for this wonderful job I have working with a sensational team to bring you Woman’s Day every week. The royal wedding of Harry and Meghan was a 2018 highlight, but I think this holiday issue is my favourite. I imagine you, dear reader, are finally getting a chance to put your feet up, so we’ve made you a bumper issue jam-packed with fun.

See you soon, guys!
