Secrets they tried to hide
She’s already been branded the villain of this season of Marriedat FirstSightAustralia, but name-calling doesn’t bother young bride Jessika Power – she’s faced far greater challenges in her 26 years and it’s given her perspective.
Just 18 months ago, the Perth model was smitten with her muscular, tattooed boyfriend called Eddy. A family friend reveals, “They’d only been dating for about 10 weeks, but they fell for each other very quickly and would drop the L-word regularly. Eddy, particularly, was really in love with Jess and acted like a puppy dog around her.”
However, the 28-year-old had been in and out of jail for petty crimes for most of his adult life after being raised in a violent home environment, and when Eddy started hanging around a bikie gang, Jessika dumped him.
“He was shattered,” the friend tells. “Sometime later, he rang her, saying if he couldn’t have her, he didn’t want to be here. They spoke for a while longer, then he told her he loved her and those were the last words he ever said. Jessika heard the phone go thud and then heard a sound like Eddy was gasping for breath.”
Eddy was later found hanging from a tree in a nearby park. His suicide attempt was unsuccessful, but he’d damaged his brain so badly, his family agreed to switch off life support. Jessika, who’d spent every day at the hospital praying for a miracle, dropped to the floor in tears and was treated like a widow at Eddy’s funeral.
“She was inconsolable,” reports the friend. “It took her a long time to deal with the extreme guilt, anger and pain, but she was so relieved that everyone wasn’t blaming her for his death. Her relationship with Eddy’s family is still solid.”
