Woman’s Day (New Zealand)

Editor’s letter

- SIDO KITCHIN EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, WOMAN’S DAY

Just when work was back in its regular rhythm and the kids were settled at school, Waitangi Day fell on a Wednesday and threw us all totally out of kilter last week.

I spent the morning thinking it was a Saturday and wondering why our printer hadn’t delivered my early Woman’sDay to check – before remembering we hadn’t actually finished the magazine! And I freaked out and told nine-year-old Darcy to get his tennis gear together for his lesson, before realising again the weekend wasn’t actually upon us. I was constantly muddled.

Perhaps the fact we held an afternoon party on a Wednesday added to the confusion. We’ve met an amazing bunch of people on our New Year camping holidays in the Coromandel over the past two years, and wanted to thank them for making our family feel welcome by having them over for a barbecue and a swim. Nek minnit, we had 13 children in the pool and a rotation of adults brave enough to join the carnage. I loved watching the kids go nuts. The sun shone, the barbie sizzled, the rosé flowed – and it was a blast.

But I sure did miss that much-needed Sunday morning sleep-in! Instead, I was in the office early on Thursday for a deadline day. The team at Woman’sDay all enjoyed a sunny day off, but we unanimously agreed a Wednesday holiday is random.

Next year, Waitangi Day falls on a Thursday and I’ve just booked the Friday as annual leave – I suggest you do the same. We’ve got to make the most of these magical Kiwi summers as long as possible.

Have a great week, guys!
