A new dose of Heart break
Arriving as a disruptor on Heartbreak Island is hard enough, but to find your ex-boyfriend among the contestants is even worse. Just ask Aucklander Hannah Judge.
“Our relationship was rocky and we didn’t break up on good terms because he wasn’t the most faithful,” claims evicted contestant Hannah. “We kept talking because it’s hard to stop when you were pretty much stuck to them for six months.”
In a first for the TVNZ 2 dating show, the bubbly blonde and her former beau Sam Newell were shockingly kicked off by host Mark Dye, who questioned whether the duo, both 22, had gone on to the island already a couple. While the pair deny it, they admit they have shared a few nights together since splitting last March, including an intimate date just a week before they arrived in Fiji.
As soon as Hannah arrived, she publicly accused Sam of cheating on her during their relationship, destroying his budding romance with tattooed beauty Charice Paterson. “It’s all fun and games until your past comes walking down the sand!” quips Sam.
Hannah, who briefly lived with Sam before their split, didn’t plan to publicly accuse her ex of being unfaithful. “I wasn’t going to roast him,” she insists, “but I was under pressure and heard everyone laughing, then Mark asked what had happened.”
Sam, a self-proclaimed mama’s boy, insists he didn’t cheat, but he admits, “What I did wasn’t right. I had a friendly kiss with a good friend of mine at my footy prizegiving and Hannah went bananas. She didn’t trust me from there.” Sam says he went on
Heartbreak for a fresh start, explaining, “I’ve done my dash, I’ve been a player and I went on with my heart on my sleeve.”
His bond with Charice weakened, pretty blonde Helen Hewat soon voiced her admiration for Sam, but before things could progress, Hannah let slip to fellow contestant Paora Porter that she and Sam were basically an item when they left for Fiji. “I was crying and lost the plot a bit,” says Hannah.
Following this shocking revelation, Mark told Sam he’d been kicked off the show, along with his ex.
Of their eviction, Sam says, “I was mortified that happened on national TV! The friends I’d made were standing there unsure if I was scum.”
