The Block AU Winning kitchens
There was plenty of sizzle when the Blockheads revealed their kitchens filled with premium fittings, practical features and clever touches
The sense of grandeur and space in these kitchens made the three judges’ jaws drop. Each kitchen was luxurious yet highly individual and showcased the different styles of the teams, from Hollywood glamour to industrial deco. These kitchens and dining areas really put the heart into apartments designed for the most committed entertainers and home chefs. From pops of colour on cabinetry to vast Caesarstone benchtops, there’s plenty of inspiration for modern kitchen design in these five rooms.
Karlie and Will cooked up a treat with this sleek and glamorous kitchen. It earned them a perfect score, but they had to share the moment with Dan and Carleen and their classic cook’s zone. Shaynna ladled out praise for Karlie and Will. “This is one of the most divine kitchens I’ve ever seen,” she gushed. “It says total luxury.” That was due to the butler’s pantry, fitted with a second dishwasher, oven and sink, while the functionality of all the cupboards was “genius” (the ultimate compliment from the queen of the closet). The black cabinetry was bang on trend and the lighting bathed the room in a winning glow.
“Oh, wow, I love that cabinetry,” said Darren, who declared it sleek and contemporary. Shaynna, meanwhile, made a beeline for the benchtop: “It’s so massive it needs its own postcode, but it’s in perfect proportion to the space.” The judges were bubbling over on this one. Neale said it was Dan and Carleen at their very best and their best room in the series, their “jewel in the crown… it’s beautifully understated. The sense of luxury in this room comes from the simplicity of it.” No wonder it took first equal and landed a perfect score.
The boys served up a kitchen that merely simmered in some areas but sizzled in others. “The quality is off the charts,” said Darren. The benchtop stretched into the next suburb and the beautiful handles added a flourish. Neale also loved that the colour in the laundry had been continued into this room. But while Shaynna loved the cabinets’ brick-style pattern, Neale didn’t – it was too busy, he said, but they had delivered “yet another spectacular blank canvas” that buyers would respond to.
