BUDGET

What areas of your home did you splurge on? We definitely splurged on the white linen curtains from Allium Interiors in Newmarket. We think they soften the look of the concrete floors.

What did you save on? We really hunted around for the right carpet for the kids’ rooms. We had our hearts set on a 100 percent wool style from Cavalier Bremworth and ended up getting it a third cheaper by doing some bargain hunting. We also didn’t go over the top with the spend on our kitchen but we think it’s practical and it works. In the bathrooms, we kept costs down by keeping the original wooden floorboards rather than tiling. We also chose big tiles instead of small ones in the shower and bath areas.

Do you tend to buy high-end homeware or seek out a bargain? A combination of both. Our big pieces of furniture (leather sofa, club chairs, dining table) weren’t exactly cheap but we hope they are forever pieces. We haven’t spent a lot on our main living room rug ($500 from Freedom) as with two kids under seven, we can’t be too precious!
