Ikeja Viva L’amour Lions Club has restated its commitment to improving lives in key areas of service Speaking during the public presentation of Scholastica Asa Onyeyiri as the 15th Club president of Ikeja Viva L’amour Lions Club, Adetope Tychus, a guest speaker at the event, admonished the Lions members to serve without expecting anything in return.

She highlighted Lion’s international six key areas of service for impacting the lives of people to include reducing diabetes, improving vision, and relieving hunger, war against paediatric cancer, youth empowerment and environmental protection.

She admonished members to continue to impact lives in these areas of service.

Speaking on the topic: ‘The Covid-19 vaccine and its acceptability in Nigeria,’ Ngozi Nwosu, consultant Physician, explained that there are lots of conspiracy theories which are targeted against acceptability of the Covid-2019 vaccines.

Some of the conspiracy theories she mentioned include speculations that the virus was caused by radiation from 5G masts, speculations that through the vaccine a microchip would be installed to monitor and control people, a conspiracy theory of the vaccines being a means to depopulate black Africans.

Other conspiracy theories she mentioned include Covid-19 being an economic and biological warfare, disease of the rich, scam and adverse reactions and complications.

She therefore, urged Nigerians to disabuse their minds of anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and only believe the information from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), World Health Organisation (WHO) and Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH).

“Let us help our government to fight this pandemic and as Lions, I believe that we have a unique role to play because of our community-based activities. We can carry out advocacy and education to counter the negative narrative against Covid 19 vaccines,” Nwosu said.

In her acceptance speech, Scholastica Asa Onyeyiri, the newly installed president of Ikeja Viva L’amour Lions Club, assured that projects would be carried out in the Club’s five areas of service.

“The call to support others can be no clearer than at times like this. My friends, relatives and Lions, as we embark on this Lions Service year, I humbly ask that you join me in carrying out these laudable projects,” Onyeyiri said.
