Nasarawa deputy governor, auditorgen­eral to appear before State Assembly over Covid-19 funds’ expenditur­e

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Ad-hoc Cmmittee on COVID-19 has summoned the State Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe and the State Auditor-General, Riyanu Lamus to appear before its committee to explain how the COVID-19 funds were expended.

The State commission­er for Health, Yahaya Ahmed Baba-yahaya had told the Assembly Committee sometime ago that, it has expended N700, 638,568.08 only in the fight against Coronaviru­s in the state.

Akabe who is the chairman of the state Task Force on COVID-19 is expected to appear before the committee on Thursday, December 10, 2020, while the State Auditor-general was slated to appear on 8 December, 2020 at the Assembly complex.

The chairman of the committee, Abdullahi Dahiru Angibi, directed the summon after an emergency meeting of the committee at the assembly complex in Lafia.

The chairman said that the duo were summoned to brief the house committee on their COVID-19 activities and its finances in the state.

“You will recall that on August 11th, 2020, the speaker of the state house of assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi had inaugurate­d a six-man Ad-hoc committee on COVID-19 to monitor and oversee the activities of the state task force.

“COVID-19 cases are still on, not only in Nasarawa State, Nigeria but in the whole world. It is in view of this that we are summoning the state Chairman on COVID-19 to appear before this committee on Thursday 10th December, 2020 to furnish us on its activities and finances.

“We are also inviting the state Auditor General to appear before this committee on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 to brief this committee on the COVID-19 expenditur­e,” he said.

Angibi however, assured the people of the state of their continued commitment to ensure the right things are done for the overall developmen­t of the state.
