Christian press urged to project the church positively

- SEYI JOHN SALAU

Following the several contributions of the Church in Nigeria towards nation building and development with little credit going to the Church, Christian Press and professionals in the field have been urged to positively project activities of the Church.

The challenge was given by Lekan Otufodunrin, executive director, Media Career Development Network and president, Journalists for Christ at the inauguration of new excos for Christian Press Association of Nigeria (CPAN), held at Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM), Lagos.

Otufodunrin said: “What cannot be denied is that the Nigerian Church has contributed a lot to the development of the country, but not enough credit is being given to it. There is the impression for example that Pentecostal Churches are only about prosperity preaching, but this is not true. They have greatly helped in expanding the frontier of education in the country. The Churches are involved in providing healthcare and have over the years helped to emancipate the poor in society.”

Represented by Tunde Abatan, publisher, NewDawn, Otufodunrin said the Church has contributed to the development of Nigeria. Speaking on the theme, ‘Christian News Reporting: The Prospects and National Development,’ otufodunrin urged Christian publishers to intensify their drive towards projecting the great things done in the Church and by the Church.
