SON to stamp out substandard products

- MIKE ABANG, Calabar

Farouk Salim, the director-general of Standard Organisation of Nigeria ( SON), has assured that the era of substandard goods is over.

Salim said SON was undergoing reforms to make it a more effective and efficient public service organisation.

The DG stated this in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, during the 2021 strategic leadership retreat for senior management staff, held last weekend.

According to Salim, the aim of the retreat was not just to learn and share ideas, but to see that the organisation achieved its full mandate of standardising all aspects of life as expected.

Salim called on the management staff to come up with ideas and solutions that will galvanise the organisation and bring it to the fore with a view to addressing challenges that inhibit it from discharging its primary mandate of enforcing standards for the benefit of Nigerians and the economy.

The retreat themed, “SON growing an efficient and effective public organisation”, was also aimed at repositioning SON as a role model in safeguarding Nigerians from the menace of substandard products.

The five-day event dwelt on fostering better communications across directorates, developing key metrics for measurement and evaluating performance and monitoring effectiveness, develop functional systems and mechanisms for improving efficiency of activities and promote team bonding, among others.
