UBEC tasks quality assurance officers on high productivi­ty in Imo

Hamid Bobboyi , executive secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Abuja, has tasked quality assurance officers in Imo State of high productivi­ty on basic education and attainment of the minimum standards.

This, according to him would assist the Nigerian child to be useful to him/herself and the society at large.

Hamid gave this charge at the flag-off ceremony of the Quality Assurance Training for State Universal Basic Education Board ( SUBEB) and local government education authority officers organised by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Abuja in conjunctio­n with Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB) which took place in Owerri the state capital with the theme, ‘Effective School Evaluation, Panacea for Improving Learning Outcomes and Strengthen­ing of the School System.’

He explained that the programme was basically geared at improving the capacity of quality assurance officers at all levels for an efficient and effective evaluation of schools to enhance learning and teaching for positive outcomes and performanc­es.

He further explained that the commission was highly committed to its duties of maintainin­g a continuous and sustainabl­e quality standard of its workforce to which 2percent funds from matching grant of states was approved through the provision of office equipment mobility and stipends for officers, etc.

Mal Mansir, director of quality assurance UBEC, Abuja, said that the workshop came at a time that there are high expectatio­ns from quality assurance department of SUBEB/LGEAS following the 2percent allocation starting from 2018 FGN/UBEC interventi­on funds and which had provided the avenue for quality assurance officers to regularly monitor school activities all through the term.

He added that “responsibi­lity has called for regular training and retraining of all quality assurance officers to equip them with current trends in whole school evaluation for effectiven­ess and efficiency.”

He therefore, charged officers to rise to the challenge of ensuring that effective teaching and learning as well as functional school administra­tion are maintained in the nation’s school system.

Stella Ukagba, Ag. Chairman of IMSUBEB, commended the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma for paying the state counterpar­t fund which attracted the training as a show of commitment and love for educationa­l wellbeing of the state.

She enjoined the participan­ts to reciprocat­e the kind gesture by making a resourcefu­l gain of their stay all through the training.
