Sanusi urges export of more processed goods
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, has urged Nigerian exporters to focus on the exportation of processed products which would add value to their businesses.
He was quoted in a statement as saying this in Kano at the 4th Customers Forum of First City Monument Bank, (FCMB), where he emphasized the need for Nigerian exporters to realise that the era of exporting raw agricultural and other primary products is gone.
For Nigeria to achieve the required mileage and benefits in international trade, the monarch said the country must redirect her efforts on processing finished products and export them to earn more revenue.
The former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), commended FCMB for organising the forum in Kano, while urging exporters in the state to take advantage of the opportunity to take their businesses to the next level.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, (NEPC), Mr. Segun Awolowo, represented by the Regional Coordinator, NorthWest, Alhaji Abdullahi Mamman, stated that, “the NEPC’s collaboration with FCMB will play an important role in delivering the Zero-oil plan strategy and making the non-oil export sector a significant contributor to foreign exchange earnings.”
According to him, the focus is to make the world a market place for Nigerian non-oil products and grow non-oil exports to $25billion by 2025.
The Executive Director, Business Development of FCMB, Mr. Adam Nuru, said it is one of the various initiatives of the bank to build the capacity and support customers to improve their businesses.
