Asenior lecturer with the Taraba State Polytechnic, Suntai in Bali Local Government Area of the state, Malam Sani Jada, was killed by kidnappers Thursday night, Daily Trust gathered yesterday.

Our correspondent learnt that the lecturer, aged 50, who was hypertensive, was abducted along with a female lecturer midnight Wednesday.

A source at the institution, Malam Gambo Sani, said about eight kidnappers stormed the lecturer’s quarters at night and seized the duo. They later called their families and demanded a ransom of N2m on each of them.

The wife of the late Sani Jada, Malama Maimuna, told our reporter on telephone that she told the abductors that they didn’t have the money but they threatened to kill her husband if it was not deposited at a particular spot by Thursday night.

She said family members and friends were contacted and about N300,000 was raised but the abductors rejected it. A search party organized by school authorities along with a vigilante group found the body in the bush at about noon yesterday.

The late lecturer was buried in his home town, Ibbi, about 300 kilometers from Suntai at 3.30pm yesterday while search for the female lecturer continued.

Daily Trust gathered that between January and February this year, about 12 persons were abducted, including a housewife in Gassol and Bali Local Government Areas of the state and about N40 million was paid as ransom.

The police spokesman, DSP David Misel, told Daily Trust on telephone that he was yet to receive any report on the incident.
