This weekend, four Nigeria Profession­al Football League clubs will be up against opponents in the preliminar­y rounds of the 2017 CAF Champions League and the Confederat­ion Cup. Thus, as they kick-start their campaigns this weekend, Enugu Rangers, Rivers United, Wikki Tourists and FC Ifeanyi-Ubah would be aiming for a strong start in order to make the return legs mere formalitie­s.

Apart from FC Ifeanyi-Ubah, the remaining clubs are starting their campaigns away from home. Enugu Rangers yesterday played against JSS Saoura in Algeria, Rivers United are in Mali to face Real de Bamako in the Champions League while Wikki Tourists are in Sierra Leone to face the Royal Sierra Leone Armed Forces football club in the Confederat­ion Cup.

Our cover story, therefore, takes a look at the chances of the clubs as they go into the preliminar­y rounds of their respective competitio­ns. We spoke to some of the key players of the clubs and all were confident they would not disappoint.
