At the CAF elections held on Thursday, March 16 in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Madagascar Football Federation President, Ahmad Ahmad was elected the sixth president of the Confederat­ion of African Football, CAF. The Madagascan against all odds defeated the highly favoured octogenari­an, Issa Hayatou 34-20 votes to assume leadership of the continenta­l body.

His victory did not come to many as a surprise considerin­g that the president of FIFA and many other ‘new generation’ presidents of African football federation­s backed him to oust Hayatou who was elected CAF president since 1988.
