Soprano, Abiodun Koya releases Democracy Day song
Nigerian dancer, Kafayat ShafauAmeh, aka Kaffy has revealed plans to bring leading American choreographer, Hollywood and some Nigerian celebrities, including, P-Square, Kate Henshaw, Alibaba, Omawunmi, Daddy Showkey and Lamboginny, among others to be part of the initiative, The Dance Workshop 2017. The platform was created to educate dancers on the ethics and business of dance. Kaffy who holds the Guinness World record for longest dancer, said, whereas the workshop will be hosted across five cities - Accra, Ibadan, Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt, it will focus on topics including attitude and talent, finance in dance business, branding, the best use of social media, important techniques and skill acquisition. She said, the idea of bringing Hollywood, who has worked with various recording artistes such as Chris Brown, Ciara, and Rihanna, was to give an international perspective to the concept and to provide would-be dancers who will be participating in the project, the global exposure they need to excel. “People have complained that unlike other key stakeholders in the entertainment industry, dancers are yet to be accorded their rightful recognition. Our people are complaining despite the amount of work, resources and energy that go into dancing, its practitioners are still being left behind in the scheme of things or still being looked down on.
“But we feel we have reached a stage to correct these erroneous impressions. Gone were the days, when children who have interests in dancing were shy to discuss with their friends and parents. Today, parents do bring their children to us and tell us they want us to train them. They say they want them to have careers in dancing and all we can do now is to create platforms like this to allow people nurture their ambitions and develop corporate brandings,” Kaffy said.
One of the facilitators at the planned workshop, Ice Nweke described the initiative as one that promises a life-changing experience for young Nigerians who will be participating in it. He added that the time has come to create numerous entrepreneurs out of the many dancers in the country.
