Woman checks in with lover, dies in hotel

Police in Enugu State have commenced investigat­ion into the death of one Ifeyinwa Udeh of Ugboezeji Abakpa Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State after she checked into a hotel with her lover, Mr Joel Ugwu.

Police spokesman, DSP Ebere Amaraizu, said on June 2, Ifeyinwa and her lover checked into the hotel located around Nowas Junction at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, but later in the day she was confirmed dead by a doctor at St Leo’s hospital Trans-Ekulu.

The woman was reported to have fallen ill and become unconsciou­s before she was rushed to the hospital at about 11.15pm by Joel, who is now helping the police in their investigat­ion. He was said to have disclosed how they comfortabl­y checked into the hotel after which Ifeyinwa started complainin­g of ill health.

Her complaint began after taking a bottle of malt drink and water which Joel bought for her in the hotel. Her body was deposited at the morgue of the Parklane Specialist Hospital, Enugu for autopsy.

The police spokesman said items recovered from the hotel room included the remains of some dangerous tablets/ capsules and other materials which would help in the investigat­ion.

In another developmen­t, the police have also commenced investigat­ion on why one Afamefuna stabbed his younger brother, Chukwuebuk­a, to death over a quarrel on June 5 at Agungwu Ugwuoba, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Afamefuna, who is currently helping the police in their investigat­ion, blamed “the devil” for the incident while the body was deposited at a nearby hospital mortuary for autopsy.
