“The attention of Headquarters 1 Division Nigerian has been drawn to tension arising from an incidence that occurred at about 10:00am today 9 June 2017. A soldier of the Division Internal Security Force deployed at Command Secondary School Kaduna opened fire on some youths suspected to have encroached into the school premises.

There was pandemonium yesterday around Television road in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna when a soldier opened fire on some youths, killing one named Solomon, who was packing sand with his colleagues close to Command secondary school when the soldier ordered them to stop. While others ran away, the boy pleaded to be allowed to pack the sand in order to get something to eat. This angered the soldier and he shouted at him but as the boy was approaching him to plead, the soldier shot him dead.
Some youths barricaded the entrance to the school and roads leading to Sabon Tasha, Romi, Kachia and the NNPC refinery, causing a traffic gridlock for hours. It took the intervention of traditional rulers, youth leaders from Television community, a representative of the state governor and the Coordinator of Operation Yaki, retired Col Yakubu Soja among others to calm the situation.
